Our Story

Our journey has not been straightforward one, but there has always been the anticipation of an adventure of our own devising, something that would marry our love of sailing and water with our wanderlust. We met in Seattle in 2005, decided in 2006 to set sail someday, and bought a boat together in 2007. But as we all know, life itself is part of the grand adventure; life brought on school and more school, internships overseas, student loans, new jobs, emergencies, marriage, moves, mortgages, job changes, two kids, a new boat, and a LOT of boat repairs. It also brought on friendships, commitments, and community, and two itinerant people found their roots growing deeper in a loved community.

Twelve years after that initial conversation, despite the pain of loosening up those roots, we are ready to untie the docklines. Of course, “ready” is a somewhat relative term, because we made this decision quickly in less than ideal circumstances. We are also leaving somewhat sooner than we expected with an abbreviated preparation schedule. But what is the famous phrase? Ready or not, here we come!

Join us on our new adventure, starting with our final months of preparation and continuing as long as our travels last. Our goal is to be brutally transparent in our writing and videos about the joys and challenges of cruising with kids, the difficulty of coming to terms with new professional identities, the costs of cruising, and the highs and lows of navigating new places and unknown languages. Thanks for joining us in our learning and on our journey!
